It was a clear, cool, crisp day as the Spring Fling setup team pulled into the Edfinancial Services parking lot at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.  The Weather Channel had predicted “abundant sun” for April 4. Fingers had been crossed all week that the weather, rainy and cold up to that point, would change for the better. Indeed it did, and the day was abundant, not just with sun, but with enormous support for Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee. 

In bunny ears and tiaras, the Diamonds in the Gutter setup Easter cards and Walking Tacos. Don’t Stop Bowlieving brought out the goldfish for fish pong and even did a little Cha Cha Slide to attract customers. The Power T’s turned on the water and plugged up the vacuum for the carwash. In full sun and 70 degree weather, the first Ed Spring Fling had officially begun.

Crowds shopping for a bargain perused the rummage sale booths as crafters from outside the company commented on the event and its success. Children ventured into the Lucky Strikes booth for face painting and manicures and left with faces and fingers full of color. The smell of hotdogs, hamburgers and chili filled the air throughout the day. People from as far as Maynardville and Lafollette were drawn by the advertising to see what the event offered. After shopping, eating and playing, they would say it was worth the drive and a great day for the whole family to benefit an even greater cause.

In all, the first Ed Spring Fling was a success. Representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters came throughout the day and buzzed with excitement over the support from Edfinancial employees and the great turnout for the event. The News-Sentinel Farragut/Bearden Shopper visited to take pictures and comment on the turnout and size of the event.  At the end of the day, when the teams closed their booths and cleanup began, the one question asked repeatedly was, “When are we doing this again?!”
