If you are attending an eligible school on at least a half-time basis, you may request an In-School Deferment to postpone your student loan repayment. An eligible school is a school that has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in federal student aid programs. “Half-time” status is determined by your school.
Most eligible schools periodically send us electronic updates showing your current enrollment status. You can monitor the status of your account online via Manage My Account. After logging into your account, click “Loan Details” to view the status of your loan(s). If your status does not indicate that you are in school, you may then access the “In-School Deferment Request” form to complete by clicking “Documents,” then “Forms” and “In-School Deferment Request.” Note that an authorized official from your school must also complete their part of the form before it is returned to us.
